This was the highlight meal of the day for my family and me. The Boat is literally in the shape of a boat but is actually a small restaurant with tons of good food. I appreciated their smaller menu (three entree options). We got the com ga (chicken rice) and mi tron (dry noodles). Each dish was paired with a side of chicken broth soup and crispy garlic fried chicken. The chicken broth was simple but very delicious--soup paired with onion and scallions. Despite having a crispy exterior, the chicken remained juicy and soft. It was topped with crispy garlic bits that added a burst of flavor with every bite. By the end of the meal, no chicken pieces were left over because it was just too delicious. The chicken rice was so good that I wish we had gotten two of those dishes instead of the dry noodles. While the dry noodles were not bad, they had a bit too much sauce for my and my family's liking. I think it would have been much more enjoyable if the sauce was on the side for us to add in on our own since the noodles, quail eggs, etc., in that dish were good. We also got the bánh kẹp, which is essentially just a Vietnamese waffle. We got two flavors: pandan and strawberry. The fluffy yet crispy waffles were paired with a delicious egg cream. The smell of the waffles being made is something I think I will remember for a long time. Overall, these have to be the best bánh kẹp I have had in a long time. If I ever find myself in Seattle again, I will definitely return. I want to try the third menu item - which I already know will be good since it likely uses the same chicken broth we were served with the two entrees we ordered. I highly recommend anyone in the area stop by. You get a lot of bang for your buck, and the service was great. Note that when I passed by around 11:30 a.m.- 12 p.m., the restaurant was packed. However, by the time we came around 2:15 p.m., there was no wait. Regardless, the food is worth any wait. I also ordered the pandan iced tea. I enjoyed this tea, however, I think the flavor could be too overwhelming to some if drank too fast.
Food - Everything here was superb when we went. The garlic chicken was crispy. The soup was very refreshing and light. The rice was flavorful and paired well with the other items in the meal. Pandan iced tea was very pleasant as it was not an overpowering pandan flavor which is common in pandan items. Jameson w/ pho broth was surprisingly very good. I didn't want to take the jameson by itself so I mixed mine together and it was yummy. Unfortunately when we went there were no more waffles so I'll have to come back for those. Leaving a note here to capture that sometimes friends have said that the chicken here will come out cold. Service - Easy to order and fast service. No complaints on service. Ambiance - Outside looks like a small shack (boat), sort of easy to overlook this place. Inside has booth seating but overall very small and limited in space. Cannot seat large parties.
Can't believe it's taken me this long to review this place. Order the chicken and rice, any cocktail, and call it a day! Bonus points if you are down to eat with hands and clean your bones and plate dry! The food is sensational. Perfect Every time! Expect a simple environment, and order fast and you'll eat fast! Enjoy and come back over and over!
The boat has a really cute pink exterior, so it is easy to spot, and there is surprisingly a lot of seating inside. Today I ordered the garlic chicken with rice, dry noodles, and the waffles. They literally took 25 minutes to take our order, which is the only con :( but the food was delicious! Food was seasoned really well, everything just tasted a lot like fish sauce, which i like comparing the waffles to the mcozy brunch spot, I actually think that the waffles here are way better because they were crispy despite sitting there for a bit and the coconut cream was so delicious and had a hint of saltiness! So good, would come back just for the pandan/banana waffles. I had really high expectations because I saw this place blew up on TikTok, and i think that personally, i prefer pho bac.
First of all, this place is super cute! Tiny inside, but it's fine if you're only dining in with 2-4 people or if you want to just order take out. They are very quick to help you when coming in. Very welcoming with their smiles! The last time we visited The Boat, we grabbed the waffles and a coffee. The Pandan waffle is my favorite and the banana waffle is what my husband likes more and including the cloud coffee. Which it really is very good!
When I crave chicken and rice, this is what I want!! If you're familiar with vietnamese fish sauce wings, this gives kinda the same vibe taste wise. It's sweet, salty, garlicky chicken with rice then add a fried egg tops it off really well. They have 2 other options you can choose from with noodles to pair with the chicken, but the rice just feels right LOL. They also offer vietnamese style waffles, pandan and a rotating flavor with a coconut salty cream. The few times I've gone the second flavor has been banana, which is my favorite honestly. It's very nostalgic Service is always nice and quick, definitely recommend this spot!
What do you want as long as it's chicken, lol The choices are chicken with rice or dry noodles or noodles in soup. The accompaniment is a little salad of cabbage, pickled carrots, cilantro and some kind of pickled jalapeño which I promptly picked out, lol I'm a wimp. The meal also has a bowl of soup and fish sauce. I also ordered the iced Viet coffee, yum. We also ordered pandan waffle and banana waffle, not bad since we got this before out meal, nothing like dessert before the meal. The meals came pretty quickly and the restaurant was pretty busy. There was a steady flow of customers waiting for tables and the turnover was pretty quick. The restaurant is called "The Boat" because the exterior looks like a boat.
I absolutely love this place. I've been here twice and had wonderful experiences both times. They have a simple menu with only 3 main dishes, all of which features their iconic garlic chicken. I've tried both the rice and dry noodle dishes. Although both of them were delicious, the dry noodle dish was definitely my favorite. The noodles were packed with flavors and came with a quail egg and cabbages that added some good crunchiness. The chicken itself was nothing but amazing - it was crunchy and garlicky all while being juicy and tender. Aside from chicken dishes, their waffles are also very outstanding. They have two flavors, pandan and banana, and the waffles come with a coconut-based salted cream. The pandan waffles were absolutely divine - it was chewy, fragrant, and just the right amount of sweetness. The salted cream was thick and balanced out the sweetness well. I didn't expect to enjoy the waffles this much! This place also has solid cocktails and drinks. Despite being relatively expensive, The Boat is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. And did I mention that the restaurant is shaped like a literal boat?
This restaurant is literally shaped like a boat, and its interior is cutely decorated, adding a fun and charming touch. From the moment we arrived, the restaurant was bustling with activity. Despite the crowd, the employees worked hard and efficiently, so we barely had to wait to be seated or served. The service was top-notch, which only enhanced our dining experience. Now, let's talk about the food... Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The noodles were cooked to perfection, the broth was seasoned just right, and the vegetables were fresh. The chicken, in particular, stood out--garlicky, juicy, and packed with flavor. But the highlight for me was the banana and pandan waffles. They were crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside--pure indulgence. I'm salivating just thinking about it! I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Washington. Highly recommend giving The Boat a try!
